Twinsburg AC Soccer
Frequently Asked Questions
What
is Travel Soccer? Twinsburg
Athletic Club Soccer Association, Inc. is affiliated with the United
States Soccer Federation (USSF) and the Ohio
Youth Soccer Association - North (OYSAN) and exists for the purpose
of promoting the game of soccer at a competitive level commonly referred
to as "Travel Soccer." Twinsburg AC Soccer is a
community-based club drawing from the talent here in the Twinsburg
School District. Twinsburg
AC Soccer teams are registered to play in the OASL (boys) and the NOGSL
(girls), which are leagues consisting of Travel Soccer Clubs located in
the Cleveland area. Some
community Travel Soccer teams that Twinsburg plays are Aurora, Bedford,
Chagrin Falls, Eastlake, Mentor, Orange, Shaker Heights, and many
others. Twinsburg AC Soccer teams have also competed in such tournaments
as the Euclid Memorial Day Tournament and the Mentor 7-on-7 Tournament. Teams
are selected on a try-out basis and
are subject to availability. Twinsburg
AC is run by parent volunteers who serve on the Executive Board.
Current members are listed below.
When do Travel Teams Play? Twinsburg AC Travel teams participate in the outdoor travel leagues - the Fall season is from late August through October, and the Spring season runs mid-April until early-June. The outdoor seasons consist of 8-games each season, with 4-home and 4-away games. The outdoor games are usually scheduled for Sunday afternoons, although an occasional week night game may be scheduled. Outdoor games are played at Liberty Park, Glenmeadow Park, and on school fields at the Dodge School.
Twinsburg AC travel teams also participate during the winter at local indoor soccer facilities such as NC-Soccer in Hudson. Some teams will play one and others will play two or three indoor sessions during the winter. Indoor matches typically take place on Saturdays and Sundays. The teams and coaches decide how many indoor sessions each team will play.
How
much does it cost? Players are required to pay for each season/session. Currently fee’s are $100.00 per season/session (subject to change). Additional charges are generally required for tournament play and additional indoor training time as needed. Players
are also required to purchase a uniform.
The current uniform cost is $65 (separate
from registration fee). The
uniform consists of a home jersey, away jersey, shorts and socks.
Who
are
the coaches and when do
teams practice? Each team has one head coach and one or two assistants. Although some teams have non-parent-coaches, most teams are coached by a parent with soccer experience. These coaches volunteer their time, and all are required to attend a USSF coaching class and earn a coaching license. The coaching staff consists of 'E', 'D', and 'C' licensed coaches (sanctioned through the OYSAN and the USSF) who are registered with the travel soccer leagues (OASL & NOGSL). Team Managers assist the coaches with logistical and administrative tasks. Each coach sets up their own practice sessions which will vary from season to season. Teams typically practice two weeknights each week during the fall & spring. Winter practices have typically been held on Friday nights at The Edge (formerly Unlimited Sports) in Twinsburg.
Who runs the Try Outs? The try outs are organized by the club's Directors of Coaching, and facilitated by current Twinsburg AC Soccer Coaches, with assistance from the Twinsburg high school coaching staff.
Does my son/daughter have to play all year? Serious youth soccer players who have aspirations of playing at the school will participate on their local travel team and possibly play for a premier club throughout the year. While it is not mandatory that a player commit to an entire year, and Twinsburg AC does not require that a player sign a commitment contract as some communities do, ... we do ask that you consider the level of commitment required, and the detriment to the team should your son/daughter leave the team during the middle of the year.
Is it reasonable that we can do other things during the year? Absolutely. Most travel soccer players are multi-sport athletes, and also play rec basketball in the winter, and play baseball/softball in the spring. While conflicts do occur, they are typically minimal and can be resolved by coordinating with the coaches.
More about youth soccer ... Youth soccer in the U.S. consists of four primary levels of play.
Recreational Soccer is designed within communities to allow an opportunity for all children who are interested to learn and play the game, regardless of skill and experience. This is where soccer is first introduced to a young soccer player and the intent is to provide a fun and educational environment. In Twinsburg, this level of play is facilitated by the Twinsburg AYSO organization.
Travel Soccer is still a community-based level of play, and players are selected through open try outs. While any player within a given community may try out for that community's travel soccer teams, there is a maximum number of players that can be rostered on any given team and thus only a certain number of players can be selected. Annual Try Outs are conducted to permit existing and new players the opportunity to be evaluated and selected to these travel teams. Twinsburg Travel Soccer teams play in Travel Soccer Leagues (OASL and NOGSL) within the greater Cleveland area.
Premier Soccer is a very competitive level of soccer that involves a greater time and financial commitment. Very skilled soccer players from communities all over the NE Ohio region may try out for these premier soccer teams which are part of larger soccer clubs, some of which are managed and coached by former professional and world-class soccer players. The very successful high school soccer programs in this area have rosters made up mostly of players that have premier soccer experience.
ODP - The Olympic Development Program exists in each state for the purpose of identifying and training the best youth soccer players within that state, for the primary goal of building the national men's and women's soccer teams which represent our country in World Cup play and at the Olympics.
