What Age Group is my son/daughter? This is for the 2008-09 soccer year.
*U13 (7th grade) & U14 (8th grade) players who participate as part of the club and play travel soccer cannot also play school soccer at the middle school. This restriction is a rule imposed by the Ohio High School Athletic Assoc. (OHSAA) - the state organization that governs school athletics. For more information, see the webpage regarding high school soccer and click here for the FAQ regarding this topic.
Who runs the Try Outs? The try outs are organized by the club, and facilitated by the club's Director of Coaching, along with current Twinsburg AC Soccer Coaches, with assistance from the Twinsburg high school coaching staff.
When do Travel Teams Play? Twinsburg AC Travel teams participate in the outdoor travel leagues during the Fall and Spring seasons. The outdoor seasons consist of 8-games each season, with 4-home and 4-away games. The outdoor games are usually scheduled for Sunday afternoons, although an occasional week night game may be scheduled. Twinsburg AC travel teams also participate during the winter at local indoor soccer facilities. Some teams will play one and others will play two indoor sessions during the winter. The teams and coaches decide how many indoor sessions each team will play.
Does my son/daughter have to play all year? Youth soccer players who have aspirations of playing at the high school will participate on their local travel team and possibly play for a premier club throughout the year. While it is not mandatory that a player commit to an entire year, and Twinsburg AC does not require that a player sign a commitment contract as some communities do, ... we do ask that you consider the level of commitment required, and the detriment to the team should your son/daughter leave the team during the middle of the year.
Is it reasonable that we can do other things during the year? Absolutely. Most travel soccer players are multi-sport athletes, and also play rec basketball in the winter, and play baseball/softball in the spring. While conflicts do occur, they are typically minimal and can be resolved by coordinating with the coaches.
What is Twinsburg AC Soccer and what are Travel Teams? Youth soccer in the U.S. consists of four primary levels of play.
Recreational Soccer is designed within communities to allow an opportunity for all children who are interested to learn and play the game, regardless of skill and experience. This is where soccer is first introduced to a young soccer player and the intent is to provide a fun and educational environment. In Twinsburg, this level of play is facilitated by the Twinsburg AYSO organization.
Travel Soccer is still a community-based level of play, and players are selected through open try outs. While any player within a given community may try out for that community's travel soccer teams, there is a maximum number of players that can be rostered on any given team and thus only a certain number of players can be selected. Annual Try Outs are conducted to permit existing and new players the opportunity to be evaluated and selected to these travel teams. Twinsburg Travel Soccer teams play in Travel Soccer Leagues (OASL and NOGSL) within the greater Cleveland area.
Premier Soccer is a very competitive level of soccer that involves a greater time and financial commitment. Very skilled soccer players from communities all over the NE Ohio region may try out for these premier soccer teams which are part of larger soccer clubs, some of which are managed and coached by former professional and world-class soccer players. The very successful high school soccer programs in this area have rosters made up mostly of players that have premier soccer experience. The starting line up for the Twinsburg Boys Varsity Soccer team (2005 & 2007 conference champions) include starters with premier soccer club experience. Many of the reserve players on the bench also have premier experience.
ODP - The Olympic Development Program exists in each state for the purpose of identifying and training the best youth soccer players within that state, for the primary goal of building the national men's and women's soccer teams which represent our country in World Cup play and at the Olympics. Some Twinsburg soccer players have participated in the ODP program with several being selected to the state team and even reaching national levels.
What are the costs to play Travel Soccer? The cost for 2008-09 will be $100 per season plus a uniform fee of $65 (two jerseys, shorts, and socks). Fee's for extra indoor sessions in the winter, and tournaments are assessed separately on an as needed basis.
